Can I use Exemption Certificates with QuickBooks Online?

At this moment, our current iteration of QuickBooks Online does not pass along exemption details. This means that upon import to TaxCloud, our system will recalculate those transactions and add tax where you may not expect tax to be added. If you deal with exempt/wholesale transactions, we would recommend using our IPaaS solution.

• The IPaaS connection allows for a direct connection and extract of your data from QBO into a CSV file.
• The exempt/wholesale transactions can then be assigned an exemption certificate ID (please see our article on how to add an exemption certificate to TaxCloud).
• The CSV would then be imported into TaxCloud to be included in our final iteration of your return(s) for the period.

CSV uploads can be completed through the 10th of each month (deadline for submissions is 6 pm EST) to be included in the processing of our final version of the tax report for the month.
