Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Create a Sales Receipt: Go to Sales > Sales Transactions (or use the + New menu) and select Sales Receipt.
  2. Enter Transaction Details:
    • Select the Customer.
    • Verify the Shipping Address (Ship To).
    • Enter the Sales Receipt Date.
    • Add products or services in the line items.
  3. Mark Taxable Items: For each line item that should be taxed, select or check the Tax option/checkbox.
  4. Set QuickBooks Tax to 0%:
    • Locate the Select sales tax rate option or the tax column at the bottom of the Sales Receipt.
    • Select the TaxCloud (0%) (or another 0% custom) tax rate to ensure QuickBooks does not apply its native tax in addition to TaxCloud.
  5. Save the Receipt: Click Save (or Save and close) so all details are recorded. This is required before calculating tax.
  6. Calculate Tax with TaxCloud: Open the TaxCloud for QuickBooks Online browser extension (or use the TaxCloud integration panel, if available) and click Calculate Tax.
  7. Verify Calculation:
    • The page will refresh.
    • A new Sales Tax line item (or one or more tax line items, depending on your TaxCloud display settings) will appear with the correct tax amount added to the total.

Use these steps each time you create a Sales Receipt that requires TaxCloud-based sales tax calculation to avoid double taxation and ensure accurate, real‑time tax results.
