Introduction

The Download Center allows you to generate and download various detailed reports for analysis and record-keeping. This guide explains how to request a report.

Steps to Request a Report in the Download Center

  1. Navigate to the Download Center from the left-hand menu.
  2. In the Request report section, begin by clicking the Select report dropdown.
  3. Choose the type of report you need from the list, which includes options like Consolidated Transaction Detail Report, Jurisdiction Report, and Transaction Detail Report.
  4. Next, use the Select state dropdown if you wish to generate a report for a single state. You can also leave this set to default to get a report for all states (where applicable for that report type).
  5. Click the Date range field to select the time period for your report. (Note: some reports cannot be generated for more than 1 year at a time.)
  6. Once you have configured your report, click the Request report button.
  7. The request will be added to the Request History table at the bottom of the page. Requests may take time to process. Once the Status shows as Ready, you will be able to download the file.

Using the Download Center for the Jurisdiction Report

From your TaxCloud Download Center, you can download one of three reports that'll provide an overview of your sales tax collection in a state. After the 10th of each month, TaxCloud uses your previous month’s sales data to generate reports outlining your transactions and the jurisdictions in which you collect and remit sales tax. Here, we discuss the Jurisdiction Liability report.

What is the Jurisdiction Liability Report?

The jurisdiction report is a comprehensive document that outlines your total sales, taxable sales, and exempt sales along with the sales tax owed in each jurisdiction. It provides a detailed summary of sales categorized by state, county, city, and special jurisdictions. This report is particularly useful for filing tax returns because it includes the jurisdiction codes necessary for completing sales tax returns, accurately.

How do I read this report?

Reading the liability tax report is simple. The report provides an outline of sub-jurisdictions (counties, cities, and special jurisdictions) and an overview of the total sales, taxable sales, and exempt sales in each jurisdiction. All columns, when added, will equal the amounts shown on the state line.

To calculate your total estimated tax amount for the period covered by a Jurisdiction Report Excel file:

  1. Open the downloaded Jurisdiction Report Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Observe that the report breaks down tax information by specific jurisdictions.
  3. Locate the column labeled Tax.
  4. Create a sum of all values in the Tax column.
  5. Use this total as the estimated tax amount for the time period selected in the report.

The Jurisdiction report can be found on your Tax Reporting tab and in your Download Center.
