Introduction

This guide will walk you through the process of viewing and managing your tax thresholds for different states. You will learn how to access and navigate the Thresholds dashboard, filter and review state listings, view detailed threshold information for each state, and understand the various statuses and options available, including tax collection and filing services.

Using the Thresholds Dashboard

  1. Access Thresholds in either of these ways:
    • From the main Dashboard/Home, scroll down to the Thresholds section (or use the Thresholds link in the left-hand navigation).
    • From any page, click Thresholds in the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. You will be taken to the Thresholds page, where you can see a list of all locations (states). For each location, you can view:
    • Location – The state or jurisdiction being tracked.
    • Tax Collection status – Indicates whether you are currently collecting tax in that state.
    • Threshold / Threshold Status – Shows your sales and/or order progress toward the state's economic nexus limit and whether you are approaching or have reached exposure.
      • At Threshold: you’ve met the criteria for that state.
      • Approaching Threshold: you’re close to meeting the criteria.
      • Under Threshold: you’re currently below the criteria.
    • Current Progress for sales and orders, including progress bars showing how close you are to meeting the economic nexus threshold. Progress is typically shown as a percentage and as a value (for example, total sales amount or number of orders).
  3. Thresholds are recalculated daily at 1:00 AM CST.
  4. At the top of the page, the Action Needed section highlights states where you have tax exposure or are approaching it.
  5. Below the Action Needed section, you can view a list of all locations and their current threshold status (for example, Collecting, Tax Exposed, Not Collecting).
  6. You can filter this list by SST Filter, Filing Type, and Collecting Status using the dropdown menus.
  7. By default, the list may be filtered to show only states where you are currently collecting or tracking. Use the Show My States Only checkbox/switch (right side above the state list) to toggle between:
    • All states (deselect Show My States Only), and
    • Only the states you are registered/collecting in (re-select Show My States Only).
  8. To filter the list by collection status, use the Collecting Status dropdown to view states where you are Collecting or Not Collecting.
  9. To clear any active filters and return to the default view, click the Reset button.
  10. To browse through all the states, use the pagination controls at the bottom of the page.
  11. For any state, you can click the three-dot menu on the right side of the row to access options such as View Details, Edit State License, or Request Filing Taxes.

Viewing State Threshold Details

  1. To view more details for a specific state, click on that state's row in the list (or select View Details from the three-dot menu). This will open the Threshold Details page for that location.
  2. On the Threshold Details page, you can review several key sections:
    • Threshold Info: A breakdown of the calculation period (for example, previous or current calendar year), along with detailed progress bars for Sales and Orders for the prior and current year. The calculation period can vary by state, so review the period shown for that jurisdiction.
    • State Info: Details such as Threshold Type, nexus type (for example, Physical, Economic), and Tax Collection status.
    • Tax Collection: Indicates whether you are currently collecting tax in that state and provides a history of collection status changes. To see a full history of changes to tax collection, click the Show All button in the Collection Status section.
    • Tax Filing: Shows the current status of tax filing, including filing responsibility and frequency, and allows you to enable or manage filing services.

Enabling Tax Filing Services

  1. To enable automated tax filing for a state where tax collection is already active:

    1. On the Threshold Details page for that state, scroll down to the Tax Filing section.
    2. Click the Enable Tax Filing button.
    3. Review the dialog that appears with details about features, pricing, and next steps for the tax filing service.
    4. Click Add Tax Filing to activate automated filing for that jurisdiction.

Editing State License Information

  1. If you need to update your license information for a state, click the Edit State icon in the top-right corner of the Threshold Details page, or select Edit State License from the three-dot menu on the Thresholds page.
  2. This will take you to the State License Registration page where you can update the necessary information and save your changes.
