# Understanding Your Tax Reporting Page

Each month, the Tax Reporting page provides a complete summary of the tax obligations TaxCloud is filing and remitting on your behalf. It shows what was collected, how it's categorized, and what, if anything, you still need to handle yourself.

To access it, click **Tax Reporting** in the left-hand navigation menu.

## The Basics: What You'll See

### **Filing Period**

At the top of the page, you'll see the **filing period** which is the month and year your data covers (for example, "March 2025"). Use the date selector to view previous months or years.

### **Grand Total**

The **Grand Total** shows the aggregate tax collected across all states for the selected period. There is also a download icon to download the tax report across all filing categories in a CSV format for you to review outside of the TaxCloud app.

### **Filing Details**

Below the totals, your filings are organized into three tabs based on how TaxCloud handles them. Each tab contains:

* Every state where you have tax obligations for the period
* The current filing status and date of filing
* The exact amount collected per state
* Links to your jurisdiction and transaction reports

## The Three Filing Categories

### **TaxCloud Member — SST States**

These are states that participate in the **Streamlined Sales Tax (SST)** program. TaxCloud files directly on your behalf through the SST system if you have obligations there.

*Examples: Washington (sales & use tax), Indiana, Georgia, and 20+ other SST member states.*

### **TaxCloud Direct — Non-SST States**

These are states where TaxCloud files on your behalf outside of the SST system, typically because you've specifically requested TaxCloud to manage these filings directly.

*Examples: California, Texas, New York.*

### **Merchant Responsibility**

These are states where you are responsible for filing on your own. TaxCloud provides your data, but the submission is yours to complete.

Once you've filed, click **Mark as Filed** on the relevant state row and confirm. This notifies TaxCloud that you've handled the submission.

**Approvals and the 10th of the Month**

On the **10th of every month**, reports are automatically approved and forwarded for filing. If you want to review your reports before filing, you can do so at any time before the 10th.

## Drilling Into each State's Details

Each state has a link icon that you can click to access both the Jurisdiction report and Transactions report. This displays a dropdown to select which of the reports you want to access.

### The Jurisdiction Report

TaxCloud doesn't just file at the state level, we break your sales down by every jurisdiction with a taxing authority: the state, individual counties, and cities. The Jurisdiction Report is that full breakdown.

#### The Columns Explained

| **Column** | **What it means** |
|----|----|
| **Jurisdiction** | The name of the taxing authority  |
| **Type** | Whether the jurisdiction is a STATE, COUNTY, or CITY |
| **Jurisdiction Code** | TaxCloud's internal code for this jurisdiction |
| **Reporting Code** | The code submitted to the state's tax authority; may match Jurisdiction Code for city-level filings |
| **Taxable Sales** | The portion of your sales subject to tax in this jurisdiction |
| **Exempt Sales** | Sales that are tax-exempt (e.g., exempt products or customers with exemption certificates) |
| **Tax Due** | The amount of tax owed and remitted for this jurisdiction |

#### The Three Tiers: State, County, City

* **State row** — The first row shows your totals for the entire state: aggregate taxable sales and the state-level tax being remitted.
* **County rows** — These show activity broken down by county. Counties with $0.00 Taxable Sales but non-zero Exempt Sales mean sales were made to customers there, but all were tax-exempt. These rows still appear because TaxCloud tracks all activity for your audit trail, not just taxable transactions.
* **City rows** — These represent municipalities with their own local tax rates, applied on top of state and county rates.

### The Transaction Report

You can also access the transactions report for the states directly from here. This link takes you to the __[TaxCloud transactions page](https://support.taxcloud.com/en-us/articles/managing-your-transactions-IM7cS4vqKQ)__, where relevant filters — specifically the date range and state — are pre-applied. This allows you to easily review the report prepared and ready for filing.
