# Marking Customers Exempt in Adobe Commerce

To ensure an exempt customer is not taxed, add the customer's exemption certificate to TaxCloud and mark the customer exempt in Adobe Commerce.

## Step 1: Set up the exemption certificate in TaxCloud

1. Add the customer's exemption certificate to TaxCloud. See [this article](/articles/how-to-add-an-exemption-certificate-to-taxcloud-xfuUNu2Qnq) for details.
2. Locate and copy the **Exemption Certificate ID** generated by TaxCloud. You'll need this ID to link the exemption certificate to your Adobe Commerce exempt customer.

## Step 2: Mark the customer exempt in Adobe Commerce

1. In Adobe Commerce, navigate to **Customers > All Customers**.
2. Edit the customer's account information to add the TaxCloud exemption certificate ID.
