Marking a Customer Exempt in BigCommerce

Overview

To ensure an exempt customer is not taxed, add the customer's exemption certificate to TaxCloud and mark the customer exempt in BigCommerce.

Step 1: Set up the exemption certificate in TaxCloud

1. Add the customer's exemption certificate to TaxCloud. See this article for details.
2. Locate and copy the Exemption Certificate ID generated by TaxCloud. You'll need this ID to link the exemption certificate to your BigCommerce exempt customer.

Step 2: Mark the customer exempt in BigCommerce

1. Navigate to your BigCommerce store.

2. Within the BigCommerce admin panel, navigate to the Customers > View.

3. Locate the customer(s) you wish to mark as tax-exempt and select Edit next to their name.

4. Add Exemption Certificate ID.

   1. Within the customer's details, locate the Tax Exempt Code field.

      

   2. Paste the Exemption Certificate ID you copied from TaxCloud into this field.

5. Ensure all other customer details are accurate, then click Save to apply the changes.
