Overview

This article addresses common questions about how TaxCloud imports and processes your data. Read on to understand why reports from TaxCloud may differ from those generated by Shopify. You'll also learn about our hourly order imports, the differences in reporting methodologies, and how we handle Shopify refunds to ensure compliance and accurate tax filings.

When does TaxCloud import my orders?

TaxCloud imports fulfilled Shopify orders on an hourly schedule. Each run pulls orders that were created or updated during the previous full clock hour. For example, a sync at 4:05 PM will capture orders from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Only orders that meet the Order Capture Criteria (including at least one fulfillment) are imported.

:::info TaxCloud only imports your Shopify orders from the integration go-live date onwards.

If you want to upload your historical data, you will need to utilize our CSV Importer or contact support@taxcloud.com for additional assistance.

Why does my TaxCloud Report Differ from my Shopify Report?

TaxCloud generates tax reports based exclusively on fulfilled orders imported daily from Shopify. In contrast, Shopify's reporting aggregates all sales, regardless of fulfillment status, resulting in potential variances between the two platforms and their reporting.

Where are my Shopify refunds?

Refund data from Shopify is imported into TaxCloud on a monthly basis. This design ensures alignment with reporting and filing periods but may temporarily contribute to variances when comparing Shopify’s monthly reports to TaxCloud’s tax reports.

Does TaxCloud recognize my product categorizations in Shopify?

Yes! We recently launched a feature using the Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy to automatically set TICs for products based on the selected taxonomy in your Shopify product catalog.

There is nothing to configure in TaxCloud. Simply select the best Category for the product in Shopify, and our system does the rest.

  • The "Default TIC" in TaxCloud for your Shopify integration should = 0
  • You can allow Shopify to automatically suggest the best Category.

I have marketplace orders that flow through the Shop Pay channel. How does TaxCloud treat those transactions?

Because marketplace facilitators remit your sales tax on your behalf, TaxCloud imports transactions from them for use in nexus calculations and reporting only. TaxCloud will not file those orders.
